Accessibility Statement
Stormwire is built to be usable by everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, or large text.
Our target: the product's declared conformance target is, verbatim from the Design Spec (§7):
Target: WCAG 2.2 Level AA for all user-facing screens.
What is in the product today:
- A Skip to content link as the first tab stop, jumping to the alert list.
- A full keyboard path: Tab reaches every control, alert rows are real buttons (Enter or Space opens the selected alert), and inside a rename field Enter saves and Esc cancels.
- A visible focus ring on every control, and interactive targets at least 44 pixels tall.
- Descriptive labels and headings on every section (My Locations, Settings, Notifications, About) and sub-headings inside them.
- Live regions: the alert list and status area announce updates politely, and error notices are announced as alerts.
- Severity and state shown with an icon or text and color — never color alone.
- Warning-class alerts are distinguished from routine ones by icon, text label, border, and position — never color alone; notifications never bypass your device's Do Not Disturb or Focus settings.
- No animation, no audio, no flashing content; text scales with browser zoom; the page is a single column that reflows.
- Notification history shows times in
HH:MM UTC, labeled as UTC.
What has been checked: automated accessibility checks (axe-core) report zero violations across four page states (default, alert detail, a focused alert row, and populated history), and the committed Lighthouse run scores accessibility 1.00.
Known limitations — reported, not hidden:
- The page has no level-1 heading; the browser tab title names the document, and each section heading starts at level 2.
- The full manual screen-reader checklist (NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack) and real-device testing are scheduled for after launch and have not been completed yet. This statement will be updated with the results when that testing is done. Until then, treat the automated-check results above as the current evidence, not as a full conformance audit.
Compatibility: designed for current and previous major versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari. Push notifications on iPhone/iPad require iOS 16.4 or later and an Add-to-Home-Screen install; the Android WebView browser is not supported.
Feedback: A barrier found using Stormwire should be reported to steve@whitt.net, with a promise of a reply.
